Rachel Veron Douglas received her B.S. in economics from Louisiana State University in 2006. Shortly after hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast, Rachel joined the economic and policy research division of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. Her policy research with the Chamber focused on regional economic recovery, higher education, and public finance. Rachel enrolled in the Master of Public Affairs program in 2008. She worked as a research assistant to Dr. Sarah Jane Rehnborg of the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service from 2008 to 2009. Rachel enters the PhD program in Fall 2010. Her doctoral research will focus on social policy, poverty in the American South, resource networks in poor communities, and community development. Rachel will join the Center for Health and Social Policy (CHASP) as a research and teaching assistant.
