2008/09 Student Employment Information

Student Academic Employment

Graduate Research Assistants (GRA)

GRA are graduate students who assist faculty/administration with research duties. These positions are most often funded out of research grants.

Teaching Assistants (TA)
TA are graduate students who assist faculty with teaching courses.  Duties may include teaching a class, grading, tutoring, etc.

Student Technician Employment*

(Student Non-Academic Employment)

Student Technicians perform non-academic duties.  They assist in different areas of the LBJ School performing such functions as IT related tasks; updating information on the website; assisting with school special events planning, setup and other project-based work; reconciling accounts; scanning and cataloguing documents; developing ideas and content for brief feature stories and graphics; etc.

Each year the LBJ School hires students to work part-time during the fall and spring semesters.  The positions are a good way to earn extra money and help to contribute to the mission of the School.

* Other non-academic student titles are available for limited jobs.  If you have questions, please contact the LBJ School Personnel Office.

How to hire a student Employee (for hiring supervisors)

All requests for TA appointments must go through the Graduate Program Coordinator II.  All other requests can be submitted to the LBJ Personnel Office by email to lbjhr@uts.cc.utexas.edu.   Please include the following information in the email or by completing the Request for Appointment form. **Please note that effective October 1, 2001, tuition remission for graduate research assistants will be required on all grant proposals and contracts, unless the sponsor does not allow tuition remission (see attached pdf document).
