“Bright Ideas, Clear Communication” was the title of Avalon Ray's prize-winning art.

An art contest was initiated by LBJ School Public Affairs Specialist Megan Scarborough as a pilot project of the Barbara Jordan National Forum on Public Policy. The project, coordinated with the help of LBJ School student Amy Thompson, was designed to inspire young people to apply creative expression in exploring the complex social issues associated with the forum's theme, the digital divide.

More than 100 entries were submitted, and from those, one first-place winner and five honorable mentions were selected. The first-place winner was Avalon Ray, a student at O'Henry Middle School; honorable mentions went to Inti Gonzales, Jessica Vinson, and Josh Villarreal of Akins High School, and Celeste Lopez and Cassandra Vasquez of Brooke
Elementary School.

Judges were first-year student Todd Cohen; Rosemary Foster, a member of the faculty support group; and LBJ School Professor Dagmar Hamilton. The winners were announced during the Barbara Jordan Forum.
