Workforce forum targets special groups

Governmental agency leaders and service providers from around the world shared lessons learned from serving hard-to-reach populations at an international policy forum called "Promising Practices, Promising Policies: Inclusion of the Hardest to Serve in the 21st Century Workforce." The conference took place at the LBJ School in April.

Keynote addresses were made by Robert Rosen, author of Global Literacies: Lessons on Business Leadership and National Cultures and former Social Security Commissioner Kenneth S. Apfel, who currently holds the Sid Richardson Chair in Public Affairs at the LBJ School.

Panelists included senior representatives from the Department for Work and Pensions (United Kingdom), EmployAbilities (Canada), Good Samaritan Industries (Australia), International Labor Office (Switzerland), The Lewin Group (United States), Maatwerk BV (Netherlands), Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (Mexico), Remploy (United Kingdom), Shaw Trust (United Kingdom), and Social Security Administration (United States).

The conference was convened by Goodwill Industries International, Inc., and cosponsored by the LBJ School's Ray Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resources.
