Garner creates scholarship
Stuart Garner, LBJ Class of '96, has established a new scholarship fund to benefit deserving students at the LBJ School.

Administered by the UT Ex-Students' Association, the Grace Dellinger Memorial Texas Leader Scholarship has the sole purpose of providing financial aid to a student who otherwise would not be financially able to enroll in and finish a particular semester. The recipient must be an ethnic minority student pursuing a master's degree at the LBJ School.

The scholarship, funded at $3,500 a year, may be split among several students each year, and need not follow the same student for successive years. The first award was made this spring.

June reception cohosted by Senator Hutchison
This year's reception for LBJ School alumni, interns, and friends in the Washington, D.C., area is being cohosted by Dean Ed Dorn and U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.).

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Room SC 5 of the Capitol Building. For more information, contact the LBJ School's Office of Student and Alumni Programs at (512) 471-4292.

Recent Ph.D. graduate conducts training in Australia
Jane Maxwell, who received her Ph.D. from the LBJ School in December, spent five weeks in Australia this spring to complete part of a two-year National Drug Strategy Fellowship. She was one of three people worldwide to receive this fellowship, which is awarded by the Commonwealth.

As part of her work, Maxwell is providing training and technical assistance to Australian states in organizing local epidemiology work groups to track new trends in drug abuse. She also is doing research comparing U.S. and Australian drug abuse prevalence and use patterns.

Maxwell is chief of research at the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
