Nonprofit and Philanthropic Studies Specialization
The Nonprofit and Philanthropic Studies Specialization prepares graduates of the LBJ School for leadership positions in nonprofit and non-governmental organizations.
Program Requirements
This program is only available to LBJ School students. It is intended to complement the Masters of Public Affairs degree program and can be completed within the regular degree program requirements of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. This specialization is only available to LBJ School students. Participants must:
- Complete 15 credit hours from the list of approved courses, including:
- Take one of the three core courses on philanthropy, volunteerism, or nonprofit management.
- Complete four additional Specialization courses
Note: A nonprofit internship or Professional Report relevant to the nonprofit sector can count towards a Specialization course credit.
- Conduct 40 hours of volunteer service at a nonprofit or public service organization(s). An unpaid internship at a nonprofit can count towards volunteer hours if you do not use it to fulfill one of your Portfolio courses requirements.
Application Process
The Program Coordinator accepts applications on a rolling basis and is available to answer any questions about the Specialization and the admission process. Students are encouraged to apply early in their graduate programs.
To apply:
- Print and complete the Specialization Declaration
- Place a hard copy in the Advising Forms box next to the OSAP door.
- Email a copy to the Program Coordinator
