About Us

This Site Is Accessible

Site Accessibility Information

This site was designed to be fully accessible to people with visual disabilities. We are consulting further with accessibility experts to improve its design. These are the techniques we used:

  • Alternate ("alt") tags for all graphics
  • Relative sizing for all non-graphic elements
  • Links that make sense when read out of context
  • Option to skip navigation elements and go straight to content
  • Tables that make sense when read one cell at a time
  • Use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control presentation
  • Identification of the language used in the document

Tools Used to Create and Test Site Accessibility

The Wave, by Pennsylvania's Institute on Assistive Technology, which checks for alt tags on images and shows the order the page will be read by a screen reader

Bobby, by CAST, which checks for compliance with WCAG and 508 accessibility standards.

A-Prompt Toolkit, by the University of Toronto, which evaluates web pages for a number of accessibility barriers.

VisCheck, an Adobe Photoshop Plugin that renders graphics as seen by people with color blindness.
