Research Goals and Products

We are not disinterested observers - we want our research to have practical value to the organizations and communities who are sharing their time and expertise with us. Our views on research are influenced by our background reading on university-community partnerships and participatory action research.

Our goal is to analyze the work done by these CTCs so we can contribute to the growing body of knowledge about how these organizations connect people and communities to computer technology. Our description of "ideal type" CTC, drawn from theory and direct observation, should help other community-based organizations identify and adapt best practices for their own communities.

Academic products from this research will include this website, individual and group papers, and presentations at academic conferences. We will also develop methods of transmitting what we learn in non-academic formats, to allow for full use by interested community members and organizations.
