Description: Austin will host the World Congress on Information Technology in May of 2006. This is often called the "Olympics of information technology," because it biannually assembles the most influential people from the field of information technology and from all over the world. The local hosts, a private organization, expect about 2,000 delegates from more than 100 countries for a week of meetings in Austin.
The PRP will facilitate two functions for the Congress: we will help manage and stimulate online discussions among the delegates and other interested parties through the use of virtual forums, blogs, social software and other techniques, prior to the Congress; and we will act as a kind of "fast-reaction policy research team" for the World Congress organization, quickly assembling and explaining resources on diverse policy issues that the delegates identify as important and interesting. The goal will be to accumulate, over the course of the PRP, a deep and valuable online repository of both discussion and resources in support of the World Congress on Information Technology.
