Description: Property Rights in Globalization and Development is an intensive five-week seminar on the political economy of property rights: why governments, despite their control of overwhelming coercive power, recognize private control over property; how protection of property rights fits into political and economic development, including small-scale entrepreneurship in the developing world; how global financial institutions and contemporary democratization affect respect for property rights; and how policy-makers (and advocates) are using innovative applications of property rights to address contemporary problems of globalization, including the use of transferable quotas and emissions permits in environmental policy.
