Event: "The History of Globalization-and the Globalization of History"
Speaker(s): Tony Hopkins, Walter Prescott Webb Chair, UT History Department
Date: October 10, 2007
Length: 66 minutes
Description: Dr. Hopkins interests cover the history of Africa and other ex-colonial regions, European imperialism, and globalization. He has edited both the Journal of African History and the Economic History Review. His most recent books are Globalization in World History (2002), and Global History: Interactions between the Universal and the Local (2006). His talk will consider why historians have been so slow to explore the history of globalization, why and in what ways they have now begun to engage with the subject, and how it is likely to influence historical studies in the future. The Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law at The University of Texas at Austin promotes research and discussion on the pressing challenges created by our increasingly globalized world.
