Dreamweaver CS3 allows you to control/maintain an entire site through the application rather than simply opening and editing individual pages. Generally how this works is you have a folder on your hard drive that contains all the files for your web site. You then define a site within Dreamweaver CS3 referencing that folder. If you are uncertain as to the best way to name and structure the files and sub-directories of your site, view the Learning To Publish Files/Directories Pages. Defining Your SiteFirst make sure that any existing files for your web site are located within a specific folder on your hard drive and you know where that folder resides. If you do not have any existing files yet, go ahead and create the folder where you will keep them somewhere on your hard drive. You define your own sites using the Manage Sites option located under the Site menu. In the dialog box that appears click on the New button. A dialog box will open for you to put in all the specifics for your site:
Here you will point Dreamweaver CS3 to the folder you created on your hard drive to hold all the files for your site in the Local Root Folder field. You may also define the server information for where you will need to upload your files for them to be available on the web if you like. See Putting Your Files on the Server. Once you have created your site, you will have a window available whenever you use Dreamweaver CS3 that displays all the files in your site and shows how they are structured:
This is also the window you use to Upload and Download to and from the server if you wish to use that feature. More details on uploading and downloading can be found in Putting Your Files on the Server.
