Option 5: Upload Word Document to Web Server As Is

One of the nice things about the Web is that you can create links to any type of document, inlcuding Word's .doc files.

How To

Just upload your document to the Web server and create a link to it. That's it. Your Word document will need to end in .doc for Web servers and browsers to recognize it as a Word document. Macintosh users should upload the report as Raw Data and PC users should upload the document as Binary.

This is a good technique if you want to make a Word document template available to many people.

Advantages

  • Fastest and easiest method to publish report on Web
  • Users will be able to print report and make changes if needed after downloading

Disadvantages

  • Users must have Microsoft Word to view document and browser must be configured to open Word when clicking on a .doc file
  • Harder to navigate around document and to other locations
  • Not indexed by all search engines
  • Document size is large and will take longer to download
