COR Classic, December 2-4, 2011-Highlights

Longhorn Aquatics made a strong showing at Loos Natatorium inDallas,TX, where the City ofRichardson Swim Teamheld its Winter Classic first weekend of December.  For the Senior group, the meet was an early opportunity to improve short course yards best times and to compete the championship meet format of prelims and finals.  Longhorn Seniors accumulated 48 best time performances with some large drops in numerous events.  Here are some highlighted Longhorn performances:

 

500 Free- Laine Reed dropped under 5:00 for the first time, her time, 4:59.28.

Madison Martell dropped 19 seconds to 5:09.11.

Michaela Teague, 5:19.37, Magda Contreras Gomez, 5:20.97, and Taylor Harrison, 5:26.23,

Sean Koetting, 4:46.02, and Blaine Oldham, 4:59.83, were all lifetime bests.

400 I.M.-Grant Gibson dropped 8 seconds, 4:22.01

Tolan Nguyen dropped 5 seconds, 4:18.05

Young Jae Hur, 4:11.10, and Jose Avalos, 4:31.61, were lifetime bests.

 

200 Fly- Longhorn Seniors swam all best times:Madison2:10.65, -3 seconds, Antonio Medina Sada

1:55.85, -8, Zach Cootes 1:59.70, -4, Tolan 2:01.22, -5, and Grant 2:05.79, -3.

 

200 Free- Laine 1:52.47, -1,Madison1:56.54, -13!, Michaela 1:58.55, -2,  and Magda 2:04.96, -2

Antonio 1:47.53, -1, and Blaine 1:52.22, -3, were all strong performances.

 

200 Brst-The Senior men went 3 for 3 with lifetime bests from Youngjae 2:09.74, -3, Grant 2:15.31 -3,

and Tolan 2:19.95, -2.

 

1650 Free- Three seniors dropped a total of 1:23 from their best times accumulated. They were

Madisonat 17:58.02,-38!, Magda 18:07.72, -35!, and Zach 16:42.65, -10!.

 

200 I.M.-  Longhorn went 9 out of 10 for lifetime best performances,

The fastest were Youngjae  1:56.82, -2, and Michaela 2:17.25, -2.

The largest drops were Madison 2:17.29, -6, and Antonio 2:01.39, -5.

 

100 Fly- Impressive performances by Madison 1:01.38, -3, Taylor 1:05.96, -2, Antonio 53.58, -4,

Youngjae 54.83, -.3, and Tolan 55.99, -2.

Leading into the winter training period, results from the December meets give valuable fitness benchmarks.  These will help determine where to focus as championship season in February and March approaches.
