What do I need to bring to registration?
Please bring a swimsuit, towel and your checkbook or credit card information.
We will provide registration materials and answers to your questions.
What equipment does my diver need?
All divers need a relatively tight fitting suit, a chamois, and a bag
or backpack for their equipment. Boys need not wear a Speedo unless they
are comfortable doing so. Suits, chamois, bags
and more are available on the second floor at the Longhorn Aquatics (TXLA)
store at discounted prices for members. Divers ages 8 - 12 should bring
a couple of dry towels to help them keep warm.
May I come on deck at the TSC to watch my
child dive? It is the policy of the TSC to only allow participants
on deck during special events. Parents may observe workouts from
the bleachers on the east side of the building. Every participant's ID
is checked before they are allowed access to the locker room or pool deck.
This precaution helps insure the safety of your child while he or she
is in the building. You may always contact George Perdue to arrange a
day to come on deck and watch your child dive up close for those times
when relatives or friends are in town.
What is the Volunteer/Voucher Program? We
could not run swimming or diving competitions, operate our Longhorn Aquatics Store, or
fundraise without help from our members. In an effort to reward those
members who do help the program, we have developed a voucher system where
parents, and when appropriate participants, can earn credit against their
voucher bill. Voucher fees are assessed once a year in August for the
prior fiscal year and the amount depends on your divers level of participation.
Please refer to the voucher information sheet in your registration packet
for exact amounts. Members receive credit against their voucher bill by
volunteering their time for TXLA. Parents can sign up for volunteer opportunities at http://www.supermeets.com/Index.cfm?&StaffTrackerClient=77 .
How does my diver change groups or move up
in the diving program? Each diver will be considered on an individual
basis for placement within a group. As your diver progresses in the sport,
he or she will be offered the opportunity to move up within our group
structure. This is a decision that will be made by the diver, parent,
and coach. Members can request a group change at any time, but the final
decision rest with the head coach.
Where can I learn more about the sport of
competitive diving? Two great resources are available online, United States Diving at www.usdiving.org and AAU at http://www.aausports.org/sprt_Diving.asp?a=sprt_Diving_Home.htm.
Where can I park at the TSC? All
parking on campus is permit restricted with the exception of the pay parking
garages. You will find metered spots on the south side of MLK on Trinity.
Members can obtain a E parking permit by requesting
and filling out a parking form at the front desk of the TSC and taking
it to parking and traffic along with a check for $88. Parking on Campus
without a permit will not be allowed until after 5:45 PM each day. The E (Evening) parking permit allows members to park on Campus between 4:00 PM until 8:00pm.
What is the TXLA Diving make-up policy:
Make up sessions for missed practices that were held are not permitted.
We will not suspend membership dues for vacation or any other reason except
medical necessity. You may drop your membership and re-join if space allows,
but you will pay another registration fee.
How do I get information on special events
at the TSC that may affect the practice schedule? The disadvantage
of training at one of the best facilities in the country and the best
facility in the State of Texas is there are a number of special events
each year that may displace your diver's workout. We will make up these
workouts when practical, but not always. I will notify members of any
schedule change via e-mail as soon as possible. This is often only a few
days before the cancellation or time change because our schedule during
a competition depends on the number of registered competitors; a figure
not known until just before the event.
How will I know when and where our diving
meets are scheduled? Scheduling would be easy if I could get together
the competition schedule during our yearly break at the end of August.
Unfortunately, the competition schedule for the year to come is not set
until after the yearly aquatics convention, which usually takes place
in September, but some years as late as October. Even after convention
it may be some months before exact dates are confirmed. Please keep an
eye on AAU's website for up-to-date
information.
When the yearly schedule is published I will select
meets and locations to which our team will travel.
Meet information will be sent home with your child several weeks to a
month before any competition. I will notify you by e-mail when to expect
it. Competition for Developmental and Novice Divers is encouraged, but
never required. Once your diver make the Intermediate Team and learns
a JO list, he or she is expected to attend all JO events on the schedule
presented in October. You must contact the head coach with any conflicts
as they arise.
Are there any Saturday practices?
Yes, we will have Saturday workouts that will generally be open to all
members. We do not have a regularly scheduled Saturday workout because
of the large number of weekend special events held at the TSC. Please
check your e-mail for information on Saturday practices each week if you
would like to attend. Generally speaking, this will be your opportunity
to make up any missed practices.
