Seminars and Journal Clubs

In addition to coursework, students’ knowledge base is built, in part, through reading and discussing primary research articles in journal clubs and by attending seminars and symposia. Because of the diverse research areas represented at the INS, students may take advantage of a variety of seminars and journal clubs. Weekly seminar series are offered by the Section of Neurobiology, the Behavior Neuroscience program, the Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology, the Physics department, and the Section of Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology. In addition, journal clubs with topical areas of focus, such as Learning and Memory, Ion Channels, and Cellular Neurophysiology are available and are attended by INS faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows and technicians. Developing the ability to understand and evaluate a broad range of neuroscience research is an essential component of our training program and therefore students are strongly encouraged to attend the Neurobiology seminar series as well as any other seminar or journal club related to their interest. Neuroscience related events are usually posted on our NeuroReporter calendar.
