University students participating in a new sociology course this spring formed a market research firm and embarked upon a semester-long investigation of trends in teaching interests among students enrolled in the natural sciences. The topic of research was provided by the "client" for the semester - the College of Natural Sciences.

UT Austin receives $1 million grant from 3M Foundation for education and research

Three programs within The University of Texas at Austin will share a $1 million grant from the 3M Foundation designed to enhance a relationship that blends academics and business practices.The 3M support, which includes cash and in-kind donations, will be used for education and research initiatives in the College of Engineering, Graduate School of Business and the IC2 Institute. The funds are scheduled to be provided over a four-year period from 1997-2000.
Four law school alumni elected to serve on UT Law School Foundationboard of trustees

Four new members have been elected to the board oftrustees of The University of Texas Law School Foundation. Thefoundation was established in 1952 to supplement funding provided tothe UT School of Law by the Legislature and the University with privatefunds in support of legal education, legal research and the progress ofthe law. Donations to the foundation provide financial assistance todeserving students and are used to establish or assist professorshipsand scholarships at the law school.
