AUSTIN, Texas— Officials from The University of Texas at Austin and Frito-Lay, Inc. will announce a recruiting and research partnership on Thursday (Sept. 25) designed to foster student placement in internships and full-time employment, and to afford opportunities for students to participate in research projects.

The Colleges of Business Administration and Communication will be Frito-Lay's partners in this new effort, which will be announced during a reception for students at 7 p.m. in the Joe C. Thompson Conference Center, at the corner of East Campus Drive and Dean Keeton Street.

The projects, sponsored by Frito-Lay, will include the Category Management Project (CMP) and the Employee Communication Project (ECP).

Category management is one of the most important and significant topics in current retailing and consumer products marketing. Students in the CMP will study product placement in order to improve category performance, increase store profits and improve shopper convenience.

The ECP will examine communication to, and among, Frito-Lay employees to develop a comprehensive organizational communication plan, suggest how "laptop" technology can improve communication with front-line employees, and recommend how organizational change efforts may be communicated efficiently and effectively.

"The University of Texas represents the preeminent source for business talent at Frito-Lay. I am delighted to be able to co-sponsor these projects in order to provide students with learning and insights they might not normally get until they acquire actual work experience, said Tom Kuzio, senior vice president of Frito-Lay.

Undergraduate and graduate students may apply to particpate in the partnership program. Applications are due in the Business Career Services Office or the Communication Career Services Office by 5 p.m. on Oct. 10. Interviews will be conducted Oct. 13-17. Students selected will be notified by Oct. 27.
