AUSTIN, Texas — Two University of Texas at Austin voice students were winners at the recent National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) regional conference on campus.

Kristen Hertzenberg of Kingwood was first-place winner in the Junior Women's category, and Hanan Alattar of Sugar Land won fourth place in the Senior Women's category at the NATS 47th Conference of the Texoma Region and 46th Annual Student Auditions, held at the UT School of Music earlier this month. Each competed with some 40 students in her respective category.

Hertzenberg is a student of Professor Martha Deatherage. Alattar is a student of Professor Darlene Wiley.

The conference and auditions attracted some 800 singers in 13 classes, ages 15 through college. Besides auditions, NATS activities included vocal performances and master classes, lectures and demonstrations. The Texoma Region covers the Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma area.
