Regents authorize naming of athletics facilities at UT Austin

University of Texas System Board of Regents took action Thursday (Aug. 14) to name two facilities in honor of individuals who have made significant gifts to the Longhorn Legacy, a $30 million campaign for UT Austin athletics.
"Tex" Moncrief's name added to UT Austin's athletic center

University of Texas System Board of Regents Thursday (Aug. 14) voted to change the name of the V.F. "Doc" Neuhaus-Darrell K Royal Athletic Center to the W.A. "Tex" Moncrief, Jr.-V.F. "Doc" Neuhaus Athletic Center on the UT Austin campus. The addition of Royal's name to the football stadium left an opportunity to honor Moncrief, a Fort Worth businessman and former UT Regent.

The football playing field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium has been named the Joe Jamail Field in honor of the Houston attorney who has made multimillion-dollar contributions to The University of Texas at Austin, including a recent $5 million pledge to athletics. UT System Board of Regents approved the naming of the field at their meeting Thursday (Aug. 14) in Dallas.
Camptexas introduces freshmen to campus life

In celebration of Lillian Enloe Woods' 100th birthday and to honor her and her two sisters, Betty Enloe and Gladys Enloe Courtney, for their lifelong dedication and contribution to numerous East Texas public school systems, friends and family have established the Enloe Endowed Scholarship in Education at The University of Texas at Austin.
Routine archeology turns exciting for UT Austin field school in Belize

An ancient Maya burial tomb has been unexpectedly uncovered by a University of Texas at Austin team of archeologists participating in a summer field school in the rain forest of northwestern Belize. The group had been researching agriculture and population movements among the Maya and was doing limited excavation work when team members made the discovery.The tomb, located in the ancient city of Dos Hombres, currently is being unearthed, although heavy rains have slowed the progress. According to Dr. Fred Valdez, a UT Austin associate professor of anthropology and director of the Programme for Belize Archeological Project (PfBAP), the tomb dates to the Early Classic (AD 250-600) period.
