Hispanic astronauts, astronomers share visionof new worlds through Hispanic Heritage Month

As part of their special 1998 Hispanic Heritage Month series, StarDate, the nation's longest-running science program on radio, and Universo, the most widely syndicated Spanish-language program in the United States, will be featuring interviews with Space Station Mission Specialist Carlos Noriega and Ellen Ochoa, the country's first Hispanic woman astronaut in space.

President Larry R. Faulkner plans to visit UT Austin-bound students and their parents in El Paso

The eyes of Texans in El Paso who were graduated from The University of Texas at Austin will be on the University's new president, Larry R. Faulkner, and members of his delegation who arrive there Saturday (July 25) to share in a "Send-Off '98" reception for El Paso students who will be UT Austin freshmen during the fall semester.

600 high school students arrive at UT for annual summer honors colloquium

Six hundred of the state's most outstanding high school students will arrive at The University of Texas at Austin Thursday (July 23) to participate in a three-day colloquium of academic lectures, campus tours, group discussions and social events.

Steven Leslie named UT Austin dean of pharmacy

Dr. Steven W. Leslie, a University of Texas at Austin pharmacologist whose research specialty is alcoholism and alcohol abuse, has been named dean of the College of Pharmacy. The appointment was made Tuesday (July 14) by UT Austin President Larry R. Faulkner and is effective Sept. 1.

UT alumnus wins writing award

University of Texas at Austin alumnus Bruce Cook has been named co-recipient of the Grenzebach Award for Outstanding Published Scholarship for 1998, according to the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in Washington, D.C. The award, which includes a cash prize, is being presented to Cook and two other award winners at the CASE Annual Assembly, Sunday through Tuesday (July 12-14) in Chicago.

Gov. Bush and Lt. Gov. Bullock purchase 1848 Sam Houston letter for UT’s history center

Electrochemist named 1998 Pauling Award Medalist

Professor Allen J. Bard, known for his pioneering work in electroanalytical chemistry, will receive the 1998 Pauling Award at ceremonies on Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at the University of Washington in Seattle. A scientific symposium, "Frontiers of Electrochemistry," precedes the gold medal presentation.

UT Austin researchers to begin $20 million study on welfare reform

University of Michigan’s Goldenberg named UT Austin provost

Dr. Edie N. Goldenberg, dean of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts for the University of Michigan and an expert in the area of the news media and political campaigns, has been named executive vice president and provost at The University of Texas at Austin. Her appointment was announced Monday (July 6) by UT President Larry R. Faulkner and is effective Oct. 1.

“Rio Grande Valley Send-off ’98″ allows new president and delegation from UT Austin to build stronger relationships
