UT Austin 12th class day enrollment figures released

Enrollment at The University of Texas at Austin is 48,917 this fall, a total that indicates the University may retain its ranking as the largest single-campus institution in the country. The total includes 37,211 undergraduate, 10,330 graduate and 1,376 law students, and represents a slight increase over last fall's total of 48,857.
UT to hold international conference on human rights and communication

On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, veteran human rights activists, scholars and journalists from around the world will gather at The University of Texas at Austin on Oct. 16-18 to discuss how best to get the word out internationally about human rights.
UT engineers achieve low-cost lasers

Using a new technology known as "quantum dots," engineers at The University of Texas at Austin have created a semiconductor laser that can compete with much more expensive lasers used for data transmission, but at the lower cost sought by the telecommunications industry to address growing internet traffic.

UT Austin Criminal Justice Center receives National Institute of Justice grant to study public order crime

The University of Texas Center for Criminology and Criminal Justice Research has been awarded a grant from the National Institute of Justice to study public order crime in Austin using innovative crime mapping technology. The grant award is for $150,000 and will extend over an 18-month period.

Terry Wilson, who has served as associate director of the Office of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin for the past five years, has been appointed executive director of the University's Office of Community Relations.
Ford carves name on new Business School facility

The University of Texas Business School's new 10,290-square-foot interviewing facility will be named the Ford Career Center, reflecting a $1 million dollar pledge toward its financing from the Ford Motor Co. Fund. Completed in February, the 42-room suite will be dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday (Sept. 3).
