UT alumnus wins writing award

University of Texas at Austin alumnus Bruce Cook has been named co-recipient of the Grenzebach Award for Outstanding Published Scholarship for 1998, according to the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in Washington, D.C. The award, which includes a cash prize, is being presented to Cook and two other award winners at the CASE Annual Assembly, Sunday through Tuesday (July 12-14) in Chicago.

Dr. Edie N. Goldenberg, dean of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts for the University of Michigan and an expert in the area of the news media and political campaigns, has been named executive vice president and provost at The University of Texas at Austin. Her appointment was announced Monday (July 6) by UT President Larry R. Faulkner and is effective Oct. 1.

Engineer’s imaging of blood vessels could aid laser treatment

People seeking to remove a disfiguring "port wine stain" skin condition may someday thank a doctoral student recently graduated from The University of Texas at Austin for a more effective treatment. Jennifer Barton, a biomedical engineer, discovered a way to view and measure tiny blood vessels using a new imaging technique. Her efforts received international attention last year from the International Society for Optical Engineering.

But for all of the approximately 90 ex-students participating in Update '98 at The University of Texas at Austin this week, it will be an opportunity to learn about the many changes that have occurred, and others that are planned, on the campus where they studied during their younger years.
