UT Austin Conference on Race, Identity and Representation

Scholars from the College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin will explore Cultures and Contexts in the 4th annual Conference on Race, Identity and Representation on Saturday, (April 15) from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in CMA 4.128.

Two UT Austin graduate students win Mellon Fellowships

Catherine A.J. Molineux, who was graduated in 1999 from The University of Texas at Austin with degrees in microbiology and history, and Victor J. Rodriguez, a UT Austin senior majoring English, have been awarded Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic Studies. The fellowships, which are awarded to first-year doctoral students, are aimed at helping exceptionally promising students prepare for careers in teaching and scholarship. The Mellon Fellowships pay all tuition and fees plus a $14,750 stipend. Molineux is a graduate of Austin's LBJ (Johnson) High School Science Academy who plans to continue her studies in history. She currently is a research assistant at Ambion Inc. in Austin. Rodruiguez was born and went to high school in Panama City. He earned his first degree in international studies at Florida State University, also in Panama City. He plans to do his Ph.D. studies in American intellectual history. Some 85 Mellon Fellowships were awarded this year.

Three UT Austin scholars win Guggenheim Fellowships

Peter Harkness, editor and publisher of Governing magazine, will speak during a conference in Austin April 25-29 examining ways to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of state and local governments.

National Endowment for the Humanities funds Benson project to preserve rare Mexican newspapers

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded The General Libraries at The University of Texas at Austin $191,436 to support a two-year project for the preservation microfilming of 551 rare Mexican newspapers published between 1900 and 1929.

UT Career Council announces awards

The Texas Campus Career Council (TC3) has announced the 2000 recipients of the Robert Murff Excellence Awards presented in recognition of outstanding support of career services at The University of Texas at Austin. They are Rob Addy, editor of the Daily Texan; Jodi Jenkins, publications coordinator at the Texas Music Office; Richard Lariviere, dean of the College of Liberal Arts; and the Los Angeles Texas Exes Chapter.

Experts gather at UT Austin to examine controversial Alamo memoir

Liberal arts offers new course as internship program

Technology, Literacy and Culture (TLC), a relatively new interdisciplinary concentration in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin, is offering a new course as an internship program beginning this summer -- giving students real-world experience in technology-rich workplaces. TLC 371 will offer internships in non-profit corporations, publishing organizations, information technology-oriented companies, K-12 education, government and other businesses.
