Semester in Los Angeles Program names executive directorApril 25, 2005 AUSTIN, Texas—Philip Nemy, a 20-year veteran of the motion picture, television, theatrical and nonprofit industries, has been named executive director of The University of Texas at Austin Semester in Los Angeles program, which will begin in May to serve as the university’s West Coast hub of teaching and research on film, television and electronic media. He comes to the university from Angel’s Touch Productions, a Los Angeles-based entertainment company that develops motion pictures and television programming and produces seminars educating university students on careers in the entertainment industry. Prior to that he spent 14 years with the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, most recently as vice president of production on films including “Armageddon,” “Enemy of the State,” “Remember the Titans” and “The Princess Diaries.” “Phil’s rich background in the entertainment industry combined with his management skills, industry contacts and impressive record of mentoring students will give our program immediate credibility in Los Angeles and with our students,” said Matt Berndt, director of the Career Services Center in the College of Communication and the person in charge of starting and developing the program. As executive director of The University of Texas at Austin Semester in Los Angeles program, Nemy will have academic and administrative oversight of all program activities and will be a member of the center’s teaching faculty. He also will manage alumni relations, internships and corporate relationship development. Author of “Get a Reel Job”—considered by leading industry executives to be the most complete reference guide ever written for aspiring filmmakers—Nemy is a frequent lecturer at university and entertainment programs, including those at Carnegie Mellon University, Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Southern California, the University of California at Los Angeles, the Cannes Film Festival American Pavilion Summer Intensive and the Hollywood Film Festival, among others.
