University of Texas at Austin creates free online textbook

About 5,000 undergraduates at The University of Texas at Austin who each year are required by state mandate to take an introductory course on U.S. and Texas politics can save roughly $60 each, or a total of $300,000, by using Texas Politics, a new online textbook developed through the College of Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services (LAITS).

Papers of diplomat George Lister come to The University of Texas at Austin

The University of Texas at Austin has received the papers of career foreign services officer George Lister. Lister worked behind the scenes in the early 1970s to shake conventional wisdom that human rights concerns did not bear consideration in foreign policy decisions. His ideas took root, helping to spawn an influential State Department bureau dedicated to human rights.

MOOT CORP winner Idyll Life opens NASDAQ Stock Market

Idyll Life, the winning team in the 2005 Global MOOT CORP Competition, will open the NASDAQ Stock Market on Friday, Aug. 19. The team, which hails from Thammasat University in Thailand, will be joined by Gary Cadenhead, director of the MOOT CORP Program at The University of Texas at Austin, and his successor, Rob Adams.

Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation names new executive director

The Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation has named Joe Youngblood as its new executive director, effective Sept. 1. Youngblood has been assistant dean for development and external affairs at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin since 1999, and director of the LBJ Foundation's Institute for the 21st Century since 2003.
