Introduction of ‘Teaching Gutenberg,’ online materials for K-12 educators

The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin has introduced Teaching Gutenberg, an online educational Web site designed specifically for K-12 educators. The first book printed with movable type, the Gutenberg Bible is a landmark in the history of printing and one of the most important artifacts owned by the university. It was printed by Johann Gutenberg (ca. 1399-1468), the inventor of the mechanical printing process that changed the course of western civilization.

Sociology researchers awarded $500,000 NSF grant to study gender differences in science and math

Chandra Muller and Catherine Riegle-Crumb of the Department of Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin, have been awarded a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to study 'Gender Differences in Science and Math: Diversity and the Role of Social Context,' throughout 2005-08.

Engineers receive $817,000 to create university facility to better understand response of building materials to fire
