The University of Texas at Austin ranked fifth-best producer of degrees for minority undergraduatesJune 21, 2006 AUSTIN, Texas—The University of Texas at Austin ranks fifth in the nation in producing undergraduate degrees for minority groups, according to the June 1 edition of Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine. In addition to the overall standing, the university ranks seventh nationally among the magazine’s Top 100 producers of undergraduates for Hispanics, ninth for Asian Americans and 65th for American Indians. Last year’s rankings by the magazine, formerly called Black Issues in Higher Education, included a category for physical sciences. UT Austin ranked ninth overall, second for Hispanics and 13th for Asian Americans. Physical sciences were not included in this year’s survey. The report, based on 2004-05 preliminary data submitted by institutions of higher education to the U.S. Department of Education, notes that the number of students of color graduating with a four-year degree from U.S. colleges and universities has increased by 64 percent over the past decade.
