Meadows Foundation grant supports education at university's Imaging Research Center

AUSTIN, Texas—The Meadows Foundation Inc. has made a grant of $312,500 to the Imaging Research Center (IRC) of The University of Texas at Austin to support research in mental health, addiction and other health-related issues and to facilitate graduate education in the science of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

The university’s proposal to the Meadows Foundation emphasized the Imaging Research Center’s mission of providing a laboratory for research and education in the science of magnetic resonance imaging.

The funds provided by the foundation will support general operating functions and ensure that the center can support researchers at the university as they develop new projects and prepare proposals for research grants over the next two years.

In addition, the funds will be used to support the graduate course “Foundations of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Research” and a course in MRI data analysis.

“We are very grateful for this gift,” said Professor Mike Domjan, director of the center. “The funds will be invaluable in launching the research and educational activities of the IRC and helping investigators develop their projects sufficiently to attract federal research grants.”

The Meadows Foundation, based in Dallas, is a private philanthropic institution established in 1948 by Algur H. and Virginia Meadows to benefit the people of Texas. The foundation’s mission is to assist the people and institutions of Texas improve the quality and circumstances of life for themselves and future generations.
