Texas Creative Students Win ADDY Awards in Two Markets

AUSTIN, Texas—Twenty-six students in the Texas Creative program, The University of Texas at Austin Department of Advertising sequence designed to mold talented students into advertising copywriters and art directors, have earned ADDY® Awards—including a Best in Show.

Texas Creative students were awarded seven gold, six silver and four bronze ADDYs at the Austin Advertising Federation and Dallas Ad League 2007 ADDYs on Feb. 23 and Feb. 8. 

These annual awards programs recognize creative advertising work and serve as the first of a three-tiered national competition. Local winners go on to compete against other winners within their regions in one of 14 district competitions. District winners move on to the National ADDY Awards competition.

Gold ADDY Awards

  • Linda Dang, art director, and Rodrigo Mendez, art director/copywriter, won Best in Show Student for their Georgia Aquarium campaign in the Poster category
  • Ryan Fluet, art director, Mandy Osterhout, copywriter, and Sean Thompson, creative director/instructor, for their 3M Lint Roller campaigns in both the Point of Purchase and Out-of-Home categories
  • Laura McCaskill, art director, and Dan Cady, copywriter, for their Rudy Project Cycling Glasses Logo in the Logo category
  • Bella Castano, art director, and Matt Goodman, copywriter, for their Tylenol campaign in the Magazine Campaign category
  • Megan Grigsby, art director, and Meg Moody, copywriter, for their Travel Channel campaign in the Out-of-Home category
  • Paco Melo, art director, Molly Grubbs, copywriter, Maria Rivera, instructor, and Matt McCutchin, instructor, for their Madam Tussauds Wax Museum campaign in the Non-Traditional Advertising category

Silver ADDY Awards

  • Nicole Taylor, art director, and Cameron Fleming, copywriter, for their Fairmont Hotels and Resorts campaign in the Magazine category
  • Aleka Rzeznik, art director, and Ashley Thompson, copywriter, for their Post-It campaign in the Magazine Campaign category
  • Derek Bishop, copywriter, and Chase Quarterman, art director, for their Rapidograph campaign, in the Magazine Campaign category
  • Yenipher Chung, art director, and Rodrigo Mendez, copywriter, for their Nature's Miracle Ad in the Single Magazine Ad category
  • Bella Castano, art director, Derek Bishop, copywriter, and Sean Thompson, creative director/instructor, for their Ancestry.com campaign in the Poster category
  • Nancy Jeng, art director/idea maker, and Matt Crump, art director/idea maker, for their Orion Telescopes ad in the Magazine campaign category

Bronze ADDY Awards

  • Iva Zugic, art director/copywriter, Francisco Melo Walther, art director/copywriter, and Matthew McCutchin, instructor, for their Gladware Containers campaign in the Magazine category.
  • Derek Bishop, copywriter, and Sara Rodriguez, art director, for their Schick Quattro campaign in the Mixed Media category.
  • Yenipher Chung, art director, Derek Bishop, copywriter, and Sean Thompson, creative director/instructor, for their Filene's Basement Bridal campaign in the Newspaper Campaign category
  • Bella Castano, art director, and Cora Schuler, copywriter, for their Cool Whip Lite campaign in the Out-of-Home category
  • Andrew Goldthwaite, copywriter, for a radio campaign he wrote and produced for the Dallas Advertising Federation while interning at Publicis in Dallas last summer.
