University of Texas Students Compete for $12,000 in Prizes in Business School’s “Next Top Major” Video Competition
Feb. 10, 2009
AUSTIN, Texas — Students from across The University of Texas at Austin will be vying for more than $12,000 in prize money in the McCombs' Next Top Major competition, an online video competition where voters from across cyberspace will help decide the outcome.
Thirty-six teams composed of 108 undergraduate students have entered the competition. Their mission is to create a two-to-three-minute video promoting one of the nine majors at the McCombs School of Business: Accounting, Business Honors, Engineering Route to Business, Finance, International Business, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing and Supply Chain Management or the Business Foundations Program.
The teams are composed of students from a variety of majors across campus, including business, communication, liberal arts, engineering and fine arts.
Two finalist videos from each category of majors—plus two wildcard finalists—will be chosen through online voting open to students and the world from Feb. 9-15. Those teams will advance to the Showcase Showdown Feb. 18, from 5:30-7:30 on the campus. The winning videos will be selected by a team of industry judges, awarding the winning team in each category $900. Two videos will then be chosen, one as the Best Runner Up ($1,800) and one as the Grand Prize Winner ($3,000).
