“Gone to Texas” Welcomes Students to The University of Texas at Austin

"Gone to Texas," the official welcome for new students entering The University of Texas at Austin, will be held on the university's Main Mall at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 25, the evening before classes start on Aug. 26.
Journalism Professor Honored for Achievement in Diversity Research

Paula Poindexter, associate professor and graduate adviser in journalism at The University of Texas at Austin, is the inaugural recipient of the Lionel C. Barrow, Jr. Award for Distinguished Achievement in Diversity Research and Education presented by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

UT Elementary School Receives “Exemplary” Rating from Texas Education Agency

The University of Texas Elementary School enters its seventh year of operation under the title of "Exemplary," based on its spring 2009 scores on the Texas Academic Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests. UT Elementary joins Austin ISD's Blanton and Ortega elementary schools as the only east Austin schools with this rating.
School of Architecture Student Awarded World’s Largest Interior Design Scholarship

Kimberly Cole, an undergraduate student of interior design in the School of Architecture at The University of Texas at Austin, is the recipient of a $30,000 Angelo Donghia Senior Scholarship in Interior Design, the largest interior design scholarship in the United States.
Unprecedented Number of Female Faculty Hired

About half of the 49 professors who will be joining the College of Liberal Arts faculty in 2009-2010 are female. That includes an unprecedented five women coming in as full professors from such schools as Harvard University, the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Southern California.
