Artist Tony Fitzpatrick Gives Performance and Lecture As Part Of Guest Artist in Printmaking Program, Nov. 11

Event: Internationally recognized artist Tony Fitzpatrick will give a combination performance and lecture as part of the Department of Art and Art History's Guest Artist in Printmaking Program.

When: Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 5 p.m. — 7 p.m.

Where: ART Building, Room 1.102

Background: Fitzpatrick's works of art have been collected by the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami. Fitzpatrick has done cover art for numerous albums, such as the Neville Brothers' "Yellow Moon" album, Lou Reed's "Big Cat," and all of Steve Earle's solo albums since 1996's "I Feel Alright," as well as the cover for Earle's book of short stories, "Doghouse Roses."

Fitzpatrick has exhibited nationally and internationally, including a solo exhibition at P.S. One in New York City called "Selections from The Wonder: Portraits of A Remembered City" in 2008. His new book is entitled "The Wonder: Portraits of a Remembered City, Volume 3-City of Monsters, City of Ghosts." The Guest Artist in Printmaking Program (GAPP) began in 1979. The educational goal of GAPP is to take advantage of the inherent collaborative and more communal nature of printmaking and to use these characteristics as a unique teaching tool. Professional artists, with varied aesthetic and conceptual philosophies, are invited for brief residencies. The artists collaborate with faculty and students in the production of limited edition prints. In addition to making prints, the visiting artists present public lectures on their art and give critiques of student artwork.
