Landmarks Introduces New Mobile Web Site

Jan. 22, 2010

AUSTIN, Texas — Landmarks, the public art program at The University of Texas at Austin, has introduced a new mobile Web site that enables visitors to browse information about works in the Landmarks collection on any Web-enabled mobile device. While viewing the collection of modern and contemporary works throughout the main campus, visitors can use Landmarks mobile to read information about the artists and listen to an audio tour.

"These self-guided tours are a fun and informative way to become familiar with works in the collection," said Andrée Bober, director of Landmarks. "With Landmarks mobile people can readily learn about some of the most important artistic trends of our time."

The Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment (DIIA) collaborated with Landmarks on the mobile interface design to expand public access to information about the Landmarks collection.

"At DIIA we see great promise in using mobile media to support innovative teaching and learning at the university, and so the Landmarks project is a perfect fit for our vision and expertise," said Shan Evans, assistant dean for information technology.

"The Landmarks mobile initiative provided a welcome opportunity to incorporate cutting-edge technology to reach the wider community. We look forward to collaborating on future innovative projects to engage the public with the university's treasures."
