Dr. Gregory J. Vincent, vice president for diversity and community engagement, said, "We're pleased to have Ms. Hamilton lead the MIC on a permanent basis. She has done a great job aligning the programs of the student agencies that are part of the MIC with the goals of the center. As a fairly recent UT graduate who was active in the MIC and the Afrikan American Affairs agency, she understands the needs of the students, which is key to planning for the center's long-range work."

As head of the MIC, Hamilton oversees four full time staff members and provides guidance to the six student agencies that are part of the MIC: Afrikan American Affairs; Asian Desi Pacific Islander American Collective; Latina/o Leadership Council; Longhorn American Indian Council; Queer People of Color; and Allies and Students for Equity and Diversity. She also provides oversight to the Gender and Sexuality Center and functions within the division as executive director of student diversity initiatives.

Hamilton formerly was executive director of the Office of Thematic Initiatives and Community Engagement, and worked for the Fels Institute of Government in Philadelphia. As a Teach for America Corps member, she taught at Edwin H. Vare Middle School in Philadelphia. As a student at the university, Hamilton organized the MIC's Black Student Leadership Institute, the For Us From Us BBQ and was the chair of the Saturday Night Live event the first year it was taken off campus. She also served on President Larry Faulkner's Committee on Racial Respect and Fairness.

Hamilton is a doctoral candidate in Educational Policy and Planning at The University of Texas at Austin. She holds two master's degrees: one in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania and one in elementary education from St. Joseph's University. She earned a bachelor's degree in African and African American Studies from The University of Texas at Austin, graduating with high honors.
