Butler School of Music Announces First Symphony Orchestra Concert of Spring 2012

Event: Rebecca Henderson, oboe, and Sandy Yamamoto, violin, will join The University of Texas at Austin Symphony Orchestra (UTSO) in the ensemble’s first performance of the semester. Henderson and Yamamoto, world-renowned musicians and beloved faculty members at the Butler School, will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe in C minor. The ensemble will also perform Richard Strauss’ “Ein Heldenleben” (“A Hero’s Life”), a thrilling showpiece that tests the abilities of every member of the orchestra. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for students, and are available at the box office one hour prior to the performance.

Background: UTSO is quickly becoming recognized as one of the top college orchestras in the nation. It has been featured since 2007 as part of The International Festival-Institute at Round Top's yearly "August to April Series," and in 2008 the group performed at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. In 2009, UTSO performed to wide acclaim at the Texas Music Educator's Association convention in San Antonio. UTSO students have worked with noted composers such as John Adams, Jennifer Higdon, William Bolcom and Claude Baker and the university’s distinguished faculty of soloists and composers.
