Butler School of Music Professor Dan Welcher Receives Music Award from American Academy of Arts and Letters

March 14, 2012

AUSTIN, Texas — The Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin announced that composition professor and director of the university’s New Music Ensemble, Dan Welcher, has received the music award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Eighteen recipients are honored with the award each year in music. The winners are selected by a committee of Academy members.

The Arts and Letters Award in Music honors outstanding artistic achievement and acknowledges the composer who has arrived at his or her own voice.

"The award recognizes Professor Welcher's artistic integrity, something that he instills in his students regularly in their lessons and as a role model outside the studio," said director for the Butler School of Music, Glenn Chandler.

Welcher has also received recognition from other distinguished institutions including the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the arts, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

congratulations on your receipt of the award, i believe more are coming. I am applying as an undergraduate transfer student, I already sent my documents and my recordings together with my composition album. I now realized my mail did not get to the right channel. I need an address I can resend my documents
