The University of Texas at Austin is among the recipients of the first-ever Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The university will be featured along with 47 other recipients in the December 2012 issue of the magazine. Schools were selected based on initiatives to promote diversity, including those focused on race, ethnicity, gender, disabilities, veteran status and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.
The 18th annual community march celebrating the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. will begin with a rally at the Martin Luther King Jr. Statue on the East Mall at The University of Texas at Austin at 9 a.m. on Jan. 16.

The University of Texas at Austin and the Dallas-based organization, Education is Freedom (EIF), are collaborating on a pilot program in the Dallas Independent School District that will provide a pathway to the university for high school students who have been historically underserved but are high achievers.
