ABSTRACT:

Researchers in nursing and the social sciences want to know what people think.  Instead of asking them, we usually rely on questionnaires.  In fact, recent advances in computational linguistics and computer text analysis can change this.  There are now some automated ways to analyze open-ended responses to questionnaires or interviews.  Several examples of simple language analysis strategies will be presented.
