The 2007 Summer Research Institute (SRI)
The 2006 Summer Research Institute (SRI) was held Monday through
Wednesday, June 19-21.
The Summer Research Institute provides participants with detailed information
and hands-on experience related to initiating and sustaining research
on health promotion/disease prevention in underserved populations. The
focus of each year’s Summer Research Institute changes –
the 2005 focus was on community-based research with underserved populations.
The 2006 focus was on using emerging technologies in research with
underserved populations.
Nineteen research fellows participated in
the 2006 Institute. Faculty from academic and health-related institutions
in Texas and New Mexico attended. CHPR covered lodging
costs (3 nights) for out-of-town participants, and provided six meals
for all participants. Participants were responsible for the registration
fee of $100.
Applicants met the following criteria:
- Doctoral preparation (positions may be available for graduate students
depending on the number of faculty applicants received);
- Special consideration given to junior and mid-level faculty and post-doctoral
fellows who have not received significant funding (i.e., never been
a Principal Investigator on a federal research grant R01, R15, R03);

and
- Minority applicants actively sought and strongly encouraged to apply.
