Command Staff
A Disaster Nursing Committee is appointed by the Dean at the beginning of every academic year.
Incident Commander - Dean Alexa K. Stuifbergen and Pat Carter
The Dean as Incident Commander is in charge and is responsible for all activity on the incident as well as creating the overall incident objectives.
- Liaison between the President of the University (or his designee) and the School of Nursing
- Liaison between other agencies/organizations participating in the incident
- Will approve information that the public information office releases on behalf of the School of Nursing
Operations - Marilyn Pattillo
The main responsibility is to direct all actions to meet the incident objectives:
- Directs and organizes School of Nursing volunteers to work in the settings identified by the Austin Travis County Health Department or the University of Texas.
- Training, both “just in case” and “just in time.”
Planning - Trish O'Day
The main responsibility is to help the Dean with response efforts:
- Update the Disaster Action Plan annually
- Collect and display incident information, primarily consisting of the status of all resources and overall status of the incident.
- Recommend to the Dean if or when certain classes should be dismissed.
- Determine other curricular issues: academic credit for certain activities in public health, APN classes, Nursing Systems/Informatics, or Mental Health.
- Providing specialized expertise
- Research and publication
Logistics - Betty Skaggs and Margaret Hill
The main responsibility is to provide all resources, services, and support required by the incident. Examples include:
- Communication: cell phones, web site
- Supplies (name tags, Personal Protective Equipment, first aid supplies, etc)
- Transportation for volunteers
Financial - Dinny Lauger
The main responsibility is to track incident related costs, personnel records, requisitions, and administrating procurement contracts required by Logistics. Examples include:
- Responsible for finances and cost analyses
- Oversees contracts, memoranda of understanding
- Updates volunteer rosters and online training
- When deployed, tracks volunteers, and equipment
- Processes claims for accidents and injuries
- Time keeping of volunteer hours
Public Affairs - Nancy Neff
The main responsibility is to be the single point of contact for dissemination of news and information to any outside requestors as approved by the Incident Commander.
- Prepare timely reports for dissemination to the media.
- Respond to requests from the media.
- Prepare timely status reports for President of the University, on behalf of the Dean (Incident Commander).
