The first multidisciplinary training for three academic schools (Nursing, Pharmacy and Social Work) in disaster preparedness was held on April 23, 2007. We had a spirited discussion about the Memorandum of Cooperation between the University of Texas and the City of Austin Office of Emergency Management. With representatives from Social Work, Nursing, and Pharmacy, we agreed on the need to establish formal linkages and to have more collaboration in disaster preparedness. The goal is to provide skilled volunteer UT health care manpower that can respond to mass sheltering and flu pandemics should ever the need arises.
The Just in Case Training, a power point presentation developed by Nursing as a template for Pharmacy and Social Work. There is a need for one Disaster Mobilization Plan for all three schools, with attachments that include our own internal assets and call up protocol.
