Biography
Linda Chambers is currently a Clinical Instructor in Public Health Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin, School of Nursing. Ms. Chambers has been a registered nurse for over 30 years and has worked in public health, occupational health, environmental health, disaster preparedness, travel medicine, health promotion, and medical surgical nursing.
Ms. Chambers started her career as a staff nurse then served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years, first as a staff nurse then as a public health officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in February 2002. After retiring from the Air Force, she worked at the Texas Department of Health in Austin first as the sexually transmitted disease nurse consultant and then as the clinical consultant in the Center for Public Health Preparedness and Response. She also served as the Texas Smallpox Vaccination Program Coordinator. Ms. Chambers then worked as a Wesley Nurse providing education, health promotion, advocacy, and health screening for two church congregations and their surrounding communities to help the least-served and the underserved. Her last job prior to coming to UT was as the occupational health nurse manager for BAE Systems in Austin.
Ms. Chambers currently serves as the secretary for the Austin Texas Association of Occupational Health Nurses. She is a member of the Texas Public Health Association and the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN). She serves on the Education Review Board for the AAOHN. She is a member of the School of Nursing Disaster Response Committee and the Capital Area Public Health & Medical Preparedness Coalition Pandemic Influenza Workgroup.
