Biography

Lisa Doggett, MD, MPH is a practicing family physician and Director of the UT Family Wellness Center, an affiliate of CommUnityCare - a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides medical care to those without private insurance. She is also an Associate Professor of Clinic Nursing at the University of Texas School of Nursing. She received her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine and her Master of Public Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston. She completed her residency training at the University of Cincinnati. Her undergraduate degree with a major in political science was at Amherst College. Prior to coming to the UT Family Wellness Center in 2007, she worked as a family physician at People’s Community Clinic and Balcones Woods Family Medicine. As Director of the Family Wellness Center, she has facilitated an expansion of services from less than 1000 patient visits to nearly 5000 visits annually. She also oversees the Center’s Women’s Wellness Program, which provides free breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to low income women. She co-teaches a course on chronic disease and precepts family nurse practitioner students in the clinic. She is also co-president and co-founder of the Austin chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting a healthy environment and decreasing the threat of nuclear weapons. She speaks and writes regularly about environmental health issues and health care access. She has had articles published in the Austin American-Statesman, Travis County Medical Society Journal, and the New York Times.
