BIOGRAPHY
Sharon L. Dormire, PhD, RN, an Associate Professor of Nursing in the Family, Public Health and Nursing Systems Division, is certified as a Maternal-Newborn nurse. She received a PhD in nursing from The University of Florida and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Neurobehavioral Nursing at the University of Michigan. Her clinical practice over the past three decades has focused on all areas of maternal-infant nursing.
Her research centers on health promotion during menopausal transitions. This work is focused on exploring the physiological processes associated with hot flashes and memory changes at menopause and developing management strategies.
Dr. Dormire is the Coordinator of the Maternity Nursing Program. She has taught a variety of core courses the graduate program. In addition, she has taught various focused study doctoral courses as well as undergraduate nursing research. Dr Dormire also teaches a Signature Course for first year undergraduate students.
Dr. Dormire has authored various publications related to menopause, ethics and adolescent pregnancy. She also has publications related to menopause health needs of women with disabilities. Dr. Dormire is a journal reviewer for Nursing Research, the Journal of Advanced Nursing, International Journal of Nursing Practice, JOGNN, and Applied Nursing Research. Dr. Dormire is involved in public service projects of significance to Dr Dormire include serving as Co-Chair to the Austin Chapter of AWHONN and coordinator of a USAservice.org project focused on preventing low birth weight and prematurity.
