Biography

Jan Fox earned her Bachelor’s degree in nursing at Seton Hall University in Newark, New Jersey. After graduation she worked at Holy Cross hospital in Austin for eight years, filling the positions of staff nurse, nursing supervisor, inservice director, and director of nursing services.

Jan obtained her MSN in psychiatric nursing and nursing administration at the University of Texas School Nursing at Austin. She was invited to join the faculty at the School of Nursing after completing her degree. Her teaching and community interests include psychiatric nursing, interpersonal communications, change management, group dynamics, hospice nursing, cultural differences affecting patient care, and minority representation in nursing and nursing education. She has served on the boards of Planned Parenthood, Hospice Austin, the Ethics committee of Seton Hospital, and Austin Recovery.

Jan began the African American Nursing Students Association (AANSA), and has served as the principal advisor since 1995. In 2007 she received the Texas Exes Legacy Award from UT President Powers in recognition of her years of commitment and support to the student members of the AANSA.
