Biography
Nina Fredland, PhD, RN, CS, FNP is an Assistant Professor and Program Director for the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. She began her nursing career at Niagara University where she earned a BS in Nursing. She served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. Following military service she received an MSN from The University of Pennsylvania, and post Master’s education as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas Woman’s University where she taught nursing for almost twelve years. Her doctoral education obtained at Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing focused her research on children and adolescents exposed to family and community violence.
Dr. Fredland is currently collaborating with community agencies and schools in Central Texas to increase understanding related to youth violence including bullying and dating violence, and how such exposures/experiences affect physical, mental and behavioral health outcomes. Her current project, funded by the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research in Underserved Populations, is an arts-based primary prevention intervention designed to nurture healthy relationships in middle school-age youth.
