Biography

Dr. Johnson is an Associate Professor of Family & Public Health Nursing and Nursing Systems. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Johnson had 20 years of experience as a staff nurse in the areas of critical care and trauma.  In addition, she was a Renal Transplant Coordinator and a Rheumatology Coordinator. Dr. Johnson's research interests include childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault, violence against women and children, drug use, substance abuse, determinants of health behaviors, ethical and legal issues in health care and nursing, international and family health and sexual risk behaviors.

Dr. Regina Johnson has authored or co-authored numerous publications within the past 23 years. Her publications have primarily focused on childhood sexual abuse among males, and homeless adolescents. In addition, she has published referred articles on drug use among adult and juvenile arrestees, comparing drug use between welfare receiving arrestees and non-welfare-receiving arrestees, and cocaine use and syphilis trends.

Dr. Johnson is known for her expertise in public health.  She has taught and developed undergraduate and graduate level courses in community/public health.  Her courses have a strong focus on population health, program development, implementation, evaluation and policy.
