Biography
Dr. Pattillo is Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing, board certified and currently teaching and practicing as an Advance Practice Nurse (nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist) in Geriatrics, Gerontology and Adult Health. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of the Philippines and master's degree from Texas Women's University in Houston with specialty in cardiovascular nursing. Her doctorate is from the University of Texas at Austin with a focus on adult health and gerontology.
Dr. Pattillo has served over 20 years in the Air Force Nurse Corps, both on active duty and reserve. She was trained as a flight nurse and flew aero-evacuation missions in Europe, Central America and Asia. After flight nursing, she served in select Air Force hospitals, the latest being Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. She retired as Colonel, United States Air Force Reserve Nurse Corps in 1998.
After the events of September 11, 2001, Dr. Pattillo developed and taught two Disaster Nursing elective classes and later integrated disaster nursing competencies throughout the nursing curriculum. Dr. Pattillo serves as an active member of the University of Texas at Austin Emergency Preparedness efforts and was selected to be Deputy Team Commander, National Nurse Response Team-National Disaster Medical System. She has presented and published disaster nursing competencies and the importance of preparedness to local, regional, national and international audiences.
In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Dr. Pattillo to the Vietnam Education Foundation, an international fellowship program of graduate and post-graduate training in the sciences, mathematics, medicine, and information technology. Dr. Pattillo served with U.S. and Vietnamese business leaders, representatives from the Departments of Treasury, Education and State, and fellow scientists from leading US universities. Dr. Pattillo served from 2001 to 2009.
Dr. Pattillo was named Texas Nurse Practitioner of the Year 2009 for her advanced clinical expertise in geriatric nursing. She was also honored as Alumni of the Year, University of the Philippines College of Nursing in 2011 for her international impact, leadership and scholarship. Dr. Pattillo was inducted to the American Academy of Nursing in 2011. The Academy recognizes nursing's most accomplished leaders in education, management, practice and research.
