Biography
Shannon Patton’s nursing career has spanned more than four decades, with three of those dedicated to nursing education at various levels, i.e., LVN, AND, BSN programs. She received a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas @ Austin in1989. She worked in the St. David's Healthcare system for 16 years holding several positions including Home HealthCare Coordinator, Staff Development Instructor, Director of Education in the Rehabilitation Center, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gerontology and Coordinator of the Senior Health Center. She returned to academia in 2000 as an Instructor of Clinical Nursing with her primary focus on teaching clinical nursing and the Conceptual Bases of Aging lecture course to entry level nursing students in their junior year. Since the creation of the Simulation Center at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing in 2008, Mrs. Patton has worked in the Simulation Center and works closely with faculty and students in the undergraduate and graduate programs. She designed one of the first online courses for the RN-BSN students at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing in 2008 and has enjoyed teaching the online Conceptual Bases of Aging courses to nurses seeking their baccalaureate degree. Recently Mrs. Patton was honored as one of the Top Ten Most Inspiring Professors at The University of Texas Austin campus and recognized in the Alcalde, the University of Texas Alumni magazine in the May-June 2011 issue.
